My Hair Care Routine | Gimmemymascara

Today, I’m sharing with you my most requested beauty topic: my hair care routine. I always get asked what hair products I use to keep my hair looking healthy and shiny year round. I do have some split ends but I also hydrate my hair, a lot, so they don’t show as much as they otherwise would.

Rub a Dub Dub:

My hair care routine usually starts with washing and conditioning my hair in the shower. I shower often but only wash my hair 2-3 times a week, unless I really worked out that week, or have somewhere nice to be where I need nicer hair. On days I’m not showering but want to refresh my hair I use the Bumble and Bumble Pret a PowderIMG_1201this is a very fine milled, white powdered dry shampoo which soaks up the excess oil from your hair, adds volume and texture making it look and feel cleaner. In the shower I start by using the Bumble and Bumble Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner.  I love this shampoo because I can really feel it adding thickness to my hair and helping it lift at the roots. It doesn’t weigh my hair down or make it feel or look oily, which is always a big concern for me as I already have oily hair.

IMG_1192 IMG_1204  When shampooing, I focus on my roots and the back of my neck, where my hair needs to be cleaned the most. I leave this shampoo on my hair for a few minutes as I wash the rest of my body and then rinse it out. I then part my hair in two and apply a toonie sized amount of conditioner 1/3 of the way down. I do this because it helps keep my roots oil free for longer and the very tips of my hair are where I need to add the most hydration.

Brushing my wet hair:

Once I get out of the shower I brush my hair out with a wide tooth comb. I comb my hair in a very specific way to avoid breaking the ends. I start by holding the comb an inch or two from my ends and brush down, then I move my comb up a few inches and repeat this until I’m done. This way I ensure I get ride of any tangles while they’re still little and manageable. If you start from your roots you are pulling one tangle down into another and creating a bigger knot and breaking your ends as you go.

Post Shower Products:

IMG_1199IMG_1207After I gently comb out my hair I apply either the Bumble and Bumble hairdressers invisible oil primer or the it’s a 10 miracle leave-in conditioner. I think both of these products are amazing for adding shine back into your hair but I usually go with the Bumble and Bumble one because it also acts as a heat protectant, de frizz, de tangler and smells absolutely amazing. Once I get through this half of my routine, it’s time for bed.

The Morning After:

Once I wake up, I brush my hair out again, add a bit more Invisible oil if my hair feels extra dry or brittle. If my hair feels healthy enough I usually skip this step.

IMG_1210IMG_1200 I then add in a few puffs of the pret a powder if my hair is a bit too slick or the Marc Anthony 2nd day dry shampoo and massage that in.

I usually hold my hair around a 1” wand by Revlon for ribbon curls and spray in some Mark Anthony beach spray for a more tousled and relaxed curl. Sometimes I add in a bit of Tresemme tres hold freeze hairspray and tease the roots with a teasing comb and spray in some Bumble and Bumble thickening hairspray to add volume and height at the roots, especially in my bangs.

Ready to go:

That pretty much concludes my hair care routine. As you can tell, I absolutely adore the Bumble and Bumble brand hair products. I think they do exactly what they say they will, they smell great, the sprays never leave a sticky or uncomfortable residue in my hair and my hair always looks and feels healthy and shiny. They are a bit on the pricy side but it’s worth getting a sample kit and trying the products for yourself.

Comment below or tweet me what your favourite hair care product is, I love trying new things!

xoxo Anisa
